A different glimpse into mobilities: On the interrelations between daily spatial mobility and social mobility

2017

We explore the link between daily spatial mobility and social mobility, taking changes in the contemporary labor market and family as examples. We propose a new theoretical approach to mobility that is defined as a productive force of social labor. Analyzing the relationship between daily spatial mobility and social mobility, we show that spatial mobility has become a strategy of compensation for the lack of social mobility. Explanations for the increase in daily spatial mobility are also provided. Lastly, we reveal how spatial mobility has the capacity to produce major social change, taking the family as an example. peerReviewed

Compensation of Nonlinearity of Voltage and Current Instrument Transformers

This paper aims at characterizing and improving the metrological performances of current and voltage instrument transformers (CTs and VTs) in harmonic measurements in the power system. A theoretical analysis is carried out to demonstrate that, due to the iron core nonlinearity, CT and VT output signal is distorted even when the input signal is a pure sine wave. Starting from this analysis, a new method for CT and VT characterization and compensation is proposed. National audience; L'artisan nous intéresse ici comme un acteur des savoirs. Notre position universitaire n'est pas neutre, il existe une tension entre ces deux mondes dont le chercheur doit tenir compte : comment se présente l'artisan comme acteur des savoirs dans le regard des chercheurs ? Quel est le regard des artisans sur eux-mêmes et par contraste sur les chercheurs en sciences humaines et sociales comme acteurs des savoirs ? Nous proposons un jeu de miroir sur ces représentations sociales, avant d'examiner deux formes de médiation possibles. Ces expériences nous invitent à envisager un rapport aux savoirs repéré dans la figure hybride de "l'artisan-chercheur".

Application of the Information Bottleneck method to discover user profiles in a Web store

The paper deals with the problem of discovering groups of Web users with similar behavioral patterns on an e-commerce site. We introduce a novel approach to the unsupervised classification of user sessions, based on session attributes related to the user click-stream behavior, to gain insight into characteristics of various user profiles. The approach uses the agglomerative Information Bottleneck (IB) algorithm. Water and Energy Saving in Urban Water Systems: The ALADIN Project

The ALADIN project was aimed at contributing to environmental and energy sustainability of the urban water system by means of a decision support tool able to allow an evaluation of the energy impact related to each different macro-sectors of urban water cycle highlighting the main energy flows and to assess the system energy balance and identify the possible energy-efficient solutions. Moreover the tool suggests the most efficient actions in reducing water losses. In the present paper the main features of the developed tool are presented. (C) 2016 The Authors. Dans cet article, nous nous intéressons à la nature des technologies de l’information et de la communication (TIC) mobilisées par les enseignants universitaires pour enseigner et aux facteurs explicatifs de cette utilisation. Nous procédons d’abord à un éclairage théorique notamment concernant les concepts de «TIC» et d’«utilisation».
